There’s So Many, Many Islands
I have a cassette tape from 1974 of my grandmother dictating her life story. Grandpa was an aeronautical engineer for the Bristol Aeroplane Company. He came to Melbourne with the family to build Beauforts and Beaufighters at Fishermans Bend for the Pacific War effort. In 1944 he was called to Bristol to work on the Brabazon aircraft, and the family sailed to England. Grandma recalls sailing through all the small islands en route. The family later returned to Australia to live permanently, luckily for me.
